Have you ever been stuck in a rut with content creation? You read all the amazing Instagram captions, blog posts, podcasts episodes and YouTube videos people are creating and you’re stuck on what topic to even write about.

That’s how I’ve felt this past month. I started putting pressure on myself to pump out content and what I found was that it was poor management of my time because it was not inspired, I was trying to force it out. It’s funny because usually I can write and write and have so many content ideas. This past month, I sat down and write… and nothing came out.

Here’s the thing, providing value and content in business is a must, so it’s important that we find ways to navigate out of our content creation rut and generate valuable content for our audience.

Here are my top tips for creating content when you feel stuck:

1. Speak from your place of struggle

See what I did with this post? I gave tips for what I’m currently struggling with. People love to listen to and learn from you when they can relate to what you’re going through. Some of the best captions that I’ve read on Instagram are from this place of struggle: eg. how it felt to lose a client, how to overcome the overwhelm, how to find inspiration.

2. Don’t Freak Out

The more pressure that we place on ourselves to create content, the harder it will become. Go to a place of inspiration, take some space, and think about what your audience needs to hear and write from that.

Normally I batch all of my content creation on a Tuesday, and last week I really put the pressure on myself to get content written. What I found was that the content written out of this place of pressure, was not content that would add value to my audience because it wasn’t inspired. How this pressure is removed may look different for everyone. You could outsource content creation to someone else to focus on the elements of business you enjoy, or you could find resources, like my free content calendar, to help inspire content creation.

3. Repurpose

In these seasons of drought, it’s okay to repurpose. I’ve done it before and it works so well. People are busy, they haven’t memorised everything you’ve ever written.

Over the past month or two, I’ve had deadlines to meet to make sure I had content for my VA to schedule out. Instead of placing pressure on myself to create brand new content, I repurposed content.

Here’s the thing, when we create content from a place of inspiration, it converts and it connects. So if you’ve already done that in past months, then why try to force inspiration?

Bonus Tip

If you don’t have content buckets already, then you need to get them. Trust me, they make content creation so much easier!

I suggest having one content bucket for each week in the month and reuse them each month.

Example Content Buckets:

If you’re a Wedding Photographer: (1) Engagement session, (2) Tips for people planning their wedding, (3) Wedding Shoot, (4) Tips for photographers

If you’re a Graphic Designer: (1) Highlight your favourite projects, (2) 10 Colour pairing ideas, (3) Where to find images for your business, (4) Canva vs Adobe
