Welcome to episode one of the Taking Action podcast! I am so excited to provide you with tangible business tips and practical strategies to help you grow a sustainable business. Each week, I, alongside other inspiring guests, will be here to support you on your business journey – you don’t have to do business alone!
Here’s the highlights:
[1.39] In November of 2017, I got my first VA job from a business owner. I saw an ad on Instagram and then I googled what a Virtual assistant was. Then I reached out to her and she was so kind as to take me on and allow me to learn and grow.
[2.53] In June 2018, I nearly almost quit being a business owner, because I couldn’t financially continue.
[3.04] I decided, in a last effort attempt, that I was going to make a list of ten dream clients that I would love to work with and I pitched to them. Out of those pitches, one person said yes. That gave me the hope and motivation I needed to keep going. I served that client, then in August and the rest of that year, I started signing more clients.
[4.01] On this podcast, you’re going to hear lots of advice and tips on different ways to market. But I always want to make sure that you know how important it is to narrow your focus, because that’s what enabled me to grow my business. I used the data on what was working and what wasn’t, and used that to move forward.
[5.43] In March 2019, I became fully booked out. So, I went from about 3 clients to 27 clients in 6 months.
[6.07] I learned the value of how important systems, and schedules, and making quick decisions was to that.
[6.52] I know how powerful it is to have boundaries, but also find that balance between client & customer service, and self-care.
[7.07] We can’t have a successful business if we only think about ourselves, and never about how we’re going to serve our clients well. Yet, we’re also going to be burnt out and not be able to show up wholeheartedly if we have no boundaries with clients and are not spending any time with ourselves, our family or our friends.
[7.48] There is a lot of inspiration and encouragement out there and what I find is that the ones that succeed are the ones that take action and find motivation to persevere.
[8.13] Why I called this “Taking Action” was because, if we really want to see success in our business, and we really want to grow or scale or just serve clients really well, or create courses or online products that are going to serve customers well, then we actually need to go beyond this inspiration and encouragement, and we need to take action. We need to take practical, tangible small steps towards these big picture goals and strategies.
[8.54] There are 4 different aspects to taking action: Mindset, Motivation, Maths, Mentoring.
[9.41] I’m big on finding and pinpointing what those limiting mindsets are, and then reframing them in order to move forward and take action despite the doubts we have.
[9.53] Place doubts on your doubts.
[10.42] Motivation comes when we are excited about our work and what we do.
[11.04] Motivation will enable you to keep moving forward and taking action.
[11.38] “Take the data over the emotion” – Haley Burkhead
[12.04] Math enables us to move forward because it shows us where we need to spend our time.
