Planning in business is key to increasing your productivity and avoiding task switching. In this episode I go deep into how I plan my day in 5 minutes and how implementing this habit has helped my business. This routine is very easy to implement, yet it enables you to narrow your focus and prioritise key tasks that are the best use of your time.
Here’s the highlights:
[3.22] It can be really frustrating when we wake up in a day, not knowing what we need to focus on. If we don’t have a daily plan, we actually spend our day switching between different tasks and we allow distractions in our day to dictate our schedule.
[4.09] We want to plan our day in advance the morning of, that way we can manage our distractions.
[4.50] By creating a structure, it enables us to be flexible.
[6.30] Step one: Determine your hours for the day, think about when you’re most productive in the day.
[7.23] Step two: Write your tasks specifically out on a piece of paper or visual phone note.
[9.35] Step three: Get started. This step is a checking and rescheduling process.
[10.35] We need to give ourselves grace when we’re daily planning. We don’t want to put pressure on ourselves to get it perfect every time.
[12.07] What I suggest is that if it’s not generating you profit or it’s not something you’re passionate about, it’s okay to eliminate it from your to-do list that day.
[14.34] Have a think about what the different strategies are that you can put in place once you’ve created the daily plan to better enable it.
[15.10] By prioritising writing a list, we’re prioritising our time freedom.
[17:15] Take Action: write out your to-do list for the day. By the end of the day, see how much you’ve gotten done. As you’re doing it, start identifying where your distractions are coming from throughout the day and look at the different trainings I have to help you combat those distractions better.
