Have you heard people talking about their results on Pinterest, but you’re not sure where to start when it comes to pinning?

I’ve got you!

Every Pinterest manager has slightly different opinions on how much you should share and when, but in this post, I’ll show you the exact strategies that I use for my clients. This strategy can help you no matter what industry you’re in!

Strategically pinning other people’s content

There are a few reasons why you should pin other people’s content, not just your own, on Pinterest. The first reason is that it helps Pinterest not mark you as a spam account, because Pinterest LOVES content contributors. They want you to not only share your own content, but be a part of their community and share other’s content too!

The other reason is that if you are a part of group boards or Tailwind tribes, they often have rules surrounding how many pins you should pin of other people’s content. When you pin other people’s content, it helps your own profile to be seen! You shouldn’t just share any content to fill your quota, there is a strategy behind it:

1. Be strategic and only share high quality pins

A high quality pin is a pin that has a vertical image, it shows up well in the Pinterest feed, it has a URL and uses key words in the description. The keywords are important because the content will be seen when people search for the topic in the search bar. So they’ll find the pin that you’ve re-pinned… and then find your pin! This is a great way to direct traffic to your website.

2. Pin from high converting accounts

A high converting account is an account that has a lot of views. For example, if you’re a photographer, Junebug Weddings is a great example of a high converting account as they have a lot of viewers. Accounts like this can bring quality and value to your own Pinterest profile.

3. Only pin content that is relevant to your ideal client and your style

For example, you don’t want to be pinning family portraits to your account if you are only a wedding & engagement photographer. If your photography style is warm tones, you don’t want to be re-pinning light and airy photos because they don’t represent your brand either.

Strategically pinning your own content

The key word here: strategically.

1. Sharing from a blog

I get a lot of questions like “should I have a blog for Pinterest?” To answer in short, you don’t need a blog, however, it’s highly recommended. The reason for this is it provides you with a lot of fresh content to share on Pinterest, and direct people back to your website.

You really want to think in the shoes of your ideal client. For example, if a bride has found a wedding dress that she loves from your image, and she clicks through, and is directed to your blog post. You are able to share wedding tips and information from that day, as well as call to actions so that the client can book you. This makes the sales funnel so much easier when it goes through a blog post.

2. Pin what you want to work with

Again, you want to be pinning relevant content. You don’t want to be sharing images from a family session two years ago if you no longer offer family sessions as a service. You want to share images that strongly reflect your brand, the kinds of clients you work with, and the style that you use.

3. Make sure your images are optimised for Pinterest

The reason I say this is because sometimes, I see people sharing only their Instagram images on Pinterest, and while this can work sometimes, it is not the right sizing for Pinterest. Your images should be vertical, not small squares. When people are scrolling through their Pinterest feed, the small squares become lost amongst the sea of content, the ones that stand out are long vertical ones.

A great way to have your content shared by others from your blog, is to have two vertical Pinterest images at the base of your blog, with the text “Pin for Later” above. This gives you more content and provides you with images that are high converting.
