We get stuck by that one chapter of fear….

We get stuck by that one chapter of failure…

We end up living in bondage of the past that the following chapters of our lives end up being defined by that one chapter.

Business owner, it’s time to turn the page.

Today I want to share with you some prompts and tips to help you reflect on your previous year and prepare for the year ahead.

Let’s start by re-evaluating the year:

1. Identify what worked

I want you to write down what worked for you in 2019.

For example, this year I created a summit and that worked really well for my business. As did referral programs and multiple hires for my business.

Take time to think about what worked for your business this year, and why you think it worked so well.

2. Identify what didn’t work

I want you to write down what didn’t work for you in 2019.

This isn’t a time for you to be hard on yourself, or beat yourself up. This is simply an exercise to help you understand what didn’t work in your business this year, no one else is going to look at your reflection, nor will they judge.

Be honest with yourself, this is a way that you can honestly reflect on your previous year.

For example, some things that didn’t work well in my business were some of the tech that I had, as well as some of the hires that I made that didn’t quite work. Another thing that didn’t work was a Freebie that I had as it didn’t convert.

Take time to think about what didn’t work for your business this year, and why you think it didn’t work.

3. Identify what brought you joy

I want you to write down what brought you joy in 2019.

What were the things that you LOVED doing? It doesn’t matter if they worked or not, the key is to identify what brought you the most joy in your business this year.

The reason we are identifying this is because it’s going to help you reset. You want to do more of that in the new year, and if you’re looking to outsource, this is an area that you should keep for yourself to work on.

The whole reason you’re in business is to do what you love, don’t lose sight of that!

Take time to think about what brought you joy this year.

4. What needs automating, tweaking, outsourcing and eliminating

Ask yourself this question.

Divide a piece of paper into 4 sections and put the following as individual headings: automating, tweaking, outsourcing and eliminating.

Now, grab the tasks that we reflected on above and sort them into the categories on your paper.

Look at what worked and what didn’t, or what areas you love but might need tweaking.

Now that you have sorted these tasks into categories, put plans into action. If something needs tweaking, find a time on your calendar to make changes. If something needs automating, start researching the tech in place (I love using Facebook groups to see what other business owners are liking or not liking).

Then, look at what needs eliminating. Because in this next season of business, you’re going to need to learn to release control to be able to reset and improve your business. Trust me, it can be a hard thing! But what I’ve found is that when I released and eliminated tasks, I found time to say a better “yes” to the things that need my “yes”.

For example, some of the things that didn’t work, maybe you need to eliminate them for this season.

I don’t want you to be held back going into the new year. The reason for this reflection process is so that you can reset and refresh, ready to go into this new season. Because it’s going to be a great one!!
